Anthropomorphic Mouse Taxidermy

Saturday 27th July & Saturday 28th September

Make. North Docks

P1050913 (1) - Edited

Anthropomorphic taxidermy is the process in which an animal body is preserved via stuffing and mounting to have lifelike or human form. Practitioner Kat learned the art of taxidermy after long being fascinated by the Victorian taxidermist Walter Potter.

During this workshop participants will be taken through the entire taxidermic process, skinning, cleaning, tanning, stuffing and posing their mouse. All materials will be provided for the class. A small selection of props will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring along any doll’s house miniatures they want for posing their mice. The aim is for each attendee to leave with a finished piece they can be proud of. If bringing any doll’s house miniatures please make sure they are 12th scale as this size best matches the stature of a mouse.

The session will be broken up with a lunch break, there is an onsite cafe and there are several places in the area providing a range of foods including a vegan option.

Introduction to Pyrography

Saturday 27th July & Saturday 7th September

Make. North Docks

Do you have a burning passion to personalise with pyrography? If you’re terrified of fire or even a professional pyromaniac you will be in safe hands with Paula our pyrography specialist.

For those who are unfamiliar pyrography is the art of decorating wood by burning the surface using a controlled heated element.

In this class you will have to opportunity to work with hot pyrography tools and use a variety of the different tips, which produce a range of unique effects. There will be time during the class to practise your new skills on scrap wood before beginning your main piece, which you will be taking home. There will be 3 templates to choose from which have been specifically designed for beginner pyrographers, but if you’re confident and want to let your artistic side out, there will be the option to create your own design. Once everyone has completed their designs, Paula will also demonstrate the additional effects to improve any pyrography project like wooden stains and paints.

This class will provide all the tools and materials on the day, with complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits. You will leave with your completed project on a piece of A5/A4 sized wood, and the essential skills to continue and develop your pyrographic style. The decorative possibilities once mastered are practically endless!
